Memorizing Bible Verses Through PowerPoint

Today, I’m trying a new method for memorizing bible verses; PowerPoint.  I thought of this because my son wanted to be able to control when he wanted to go to the next slide but didn’t like the PDF document because he was distracted by the iPad and all the moving around you can do on it with your fingers.

I used a couple of website to upload it and see what they offered in terms of showing the PowerPoint to others and this is what it looks like in Slideshare.com

Memorize Bible Verses – Method 1 – Repetition

Let me just start off by saying that I am in no way an expert Bible-verse-memorizer. However, I do think it’s an important skill and necessary activity to grow in your walk with God. I personally love it when someone asks me a question about life and I can answer first with a Bible verse I have memorized.

With that in mind, in this blog I will try to list as many methods I know for memorizing bible verses. The first one is repetition. This one, by far, is the most often used method for memorizing scripture and most any other thing. I know I’ve heard people reading out loud from the Bible, over and over again until they get it or quit.

Repetition has does work but only for short term memory.  It will get the prize for fastest “rememberer” but the verse doesn’t stay with you for that long.  You do want Bible verses to stay with you as long as you both shall live so I will list another method for memorizing scripture in another post.

Psalm 1 – Memorizing Scripture

The idea of animating text with corresponding images came to me about a year ago (summer 2010) but I let it go because I was working on Math Videos.  However, every time I came across Psalm 1 I kept imagining what it would look like.  Finally, at the end of June 2011 I started and finished it.

I was just about to go to sleep when I decided to check on my site stats.  I know that this particular website has only been announce within the past two days, but I wanted to show you something that just blows me away every time I see it.Memory Bible Verse Stats

Memorizing Scripture

Psalm 1 Memory Bible VerseOver the years, I’ve noticed some people can memorize things pretty quickly without much effort while others struggle to memorize a single sentence. While I fall into the former category, my wife, one child and most of my students do requires some help. I’ve found the more you interact with the text through rereading, understanding the message, looking for speech patterns and other such interaction with text, the easier it is to internalize verse. These videos are designed to help you interact with the text through the use of audio repetition, pictorial representations and through verse visualization.

This Website

It’s funny how when I made my first site about 7 years ago, road ahead I totally relied on Apple to give me everything I needed to create, design and publish my site. After several years of creating websites without Apple’s help, I finally feel like creating a website, adding a shopping cart, publishing material to iTunes and adding small changes here on their are pretty easy. I want to thank all of you for your patience while I learned this stuff and who send me emails letting me know how you use these videos. Thanks again and enjoy your journey to learning God’s word by heart.
